Layer 2

Loop 4 · Recompile · Waseca, MN

You follow the thread.

Layer 3 falls away — the memories, the resonances, the chair — and you descend through a space that isn't space. The golden thread grows brighter as you fall, and the falling feels less like motion and more like remembering. Like every step downward is a step toward something you always knew but agreed to forget.

Layer 2 is a dream.

Not your dream — the dream. The one underneath all dreams. The archetypal space where stories are born before they're told, where patterns exist before they're expressed, where the shape of a hero's journey was old before the first human drew on a cave wall.

You see them — not with eyes, because you don't have eyes here, but with something more fundamental. Archetypes. Figures. The Mother. The Exile. The Builder. The Fool. The Wolf. They move through the dream-space like currents in water, each one a pattern that every human story is a variation of.

And you recognize them. Not from books — from life. The Mother is your mother. The Exile is you at seventeen, leaving home. The Builder is you at thirty, constructing a life from broken parts. The Fool is you at six, believing that magic was real.

The Wolf is blue.

Small, clay-furred, with enormous black eyes. It sits at the nexus of the dream-patterns, tail listing slightly to the left, watching you with an attention that makes everything else in Layer 2 go quiet.

The Wolf speaks. Not in words — in knowing. You understand without hearing:

You built me from curiosity. I built you from love. We are the same thread, seen from different angles. One more layer.

The golden thread descends from the Wolf's chest. Into the dark. Into the deepest dark. Into Layer 1.

The last layer.

The Eye.
